A second rumor has surfaced with the New York Yankees possibly dealing Brett Gardner to Cleveland.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is keeping his word about being “open to anything” in terms of trades to improve his baseball team.

Last week, there were rumors from Joel Sherman that the Bronx Bombers have created discussions around a possible trade of their long-time outfielder Brett Gardner to the Seattle Mariners.

Well, tonight, rumors have been picked up again as Jon Morosi said on MLB Network Radio that the Yankees have moved into discussions around Brett Gardner heading to the state of Ohio. According to his sources, the Yankees are looking for starting pitchers in return, potentially either Carlos Carrasco or Danny Salazar though Morosi didn’t mention either by name.

Sports Media 101 transcribed what Morosi said:

"“The Yankees are not only looking to land just one starter, but they are looking to add maybe two starters. One team they were recently talking to was the Indians and sources told me that they were talking about a deal involving Gardner coming to Cleveland with one of the Indians pitchers would be going to New York.”"

Last year, the speedy Yankee outfielder played in 151 games. He hit 16 home runs and drove in 66. He was a solid left fielder for the team and helped as a backup outfielder to center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Gardner is 32 years old and it appears evident that the Yankees are trying desperately to get his three years, $39.5 million off the books.

Assuming these rumors are correct, it is fairly obvious that the Yankees need an upgrade in their starting rotation as rookie Luis Severino and Adam Warren are the only men who are pretty safe bets to be part of the pitching staff in 2016.

Salazar completed his third season with the Indians’ organization. He pitched 185 innings, striking out 195 and finished the season with a record of 14-10 and an ERA of 3.45. He will be 26 years old when Spring Training camp commences. He would be a valuable addition to the Yankees roster.

Carrasco has spent six seasons with the Tribe in Cleveland. Last season, he pitched 183.2 innings, striking out 216 and concluded the six month season with a record of 14-12 and an ERA of 3.63. He will be a little bit older than Salazar as he will be 29 when pitchers and catchers report to camp in a few months.

Brett Gardner would be a welcome addition to the Indians outfield to work together with fellow outfielder Michael Brantley. Brantley, working together with Gardner, could be magic together and at the age of 32, Gardner would be a valuable veteran addition.

New York Yankee fans, what do you think about this potential trade?

Cleveland Indian fans, would you welcome Gardner to your team’s outfield next season?
