According to a report, the Boston Red Sox will outbid everyone for pitcher David Price.

One of the biggest names on the free agent market this winter is Toronto Blue Jays pitcher David Price. Teams will be lining up to make their offers to Price in an attempt to sign him, but one team is willing to go outbid the rest of Major League Baseball to sign him.

No, it isn’t the New York Yankees… but the Boston Red Sox.

“Boston will go $30-40 million above anyone else,” a National League GM told Peter Gammons.

This corroborates a report from ESPN’s Buster Olney, who reported on Wednesday that the Red Sox will make the highest offer for the left-handed pitcher.

Price is far and away the best starting pitcher available this winter. The former Cy Young winner will be getting offers from just about every team with the funds to make an offer, and it might get to a point where the Red Sox outbidding opponents by a $30-40 million margin is unreasonable.

The Chicago Cubs are another team with deep pockets expected to make a run at Price, and it would be a reunion with his former manager from his time in Tampa Bay, Joe Maddon. The Cubs also are set up for a run of dominance, which could make the club more appealing.

That reunion might be enough to make up for a difference in offers between the Cubs and the Red Sox, though maybe not if there is a $30-40 million difference.
