J.J. Nelson has opened the scoring with an amazing 22-yard touch down reception

The Arizona Cardinals are rolling. Carson Palmer is electric, the defense is on fire, and they are on their way to winning the NFC West ahead of the Seattle Seahawks. In Sunday’s game with the St Louis Rams, the Cardinals have made a fast start, with Palmer finding rookie wide receiver J.J. Nelson for the opening touchdown.

It was an impressive opening drive from an extremely impressive Cardinals’ offense. With running backs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington both on the sideline, many doubted whether rookie running back David Johnson could play at a high enough level to not diminish the potency of the passing attack. However, it looks as though those injuries haven’t knocked the quality of this offense, and Palmer is just balling out no matter who’s behind him in the backfield.

It was a beauty of a throw by Palmer to find Nelson. Nelson burned the impressive Rams secondary down the sideline, and after drawing the safety across the field with his eyes, Palmer simply dropped the ball over the top, and Nelson spins, collects the ball and gets both feet on the floor before falling out of bounds. Truly incredible catch. The extra point was successful and puts the Cardinals 7-0 up early on.

Arizona will look to record yet another win over the Rams to move them to 10-2 and all but secure the NFC West title. Meanwhile, Jeff Fisher and his Rams are trying to keep their slim post season hopes alive, although a loss here will rule them out of the race for good. The Nelson touchdown certainly puts the Cardinals is a good position moving forward.
