As expected, Jonathan Drouin failed to report to his AHL game under the advice of his agent Allan Walsh.

Jonathan Drouin’s days with the Tampa Bay Lightning are numbered. He has been suspended indefinitely by the team after refusing to report to play for the Syracuse Crunch against the Toronto Marlies.

From the beginning, everything from Drouin’s side has been orchestrated by his agent, Allan Walsh. Walsh confirmed in a statement that he told Drouin to not play.

It seems that Drouin and his agent must really want to get out of Tampa. Drouin’s refusal to play for the Crunch is likely driven by his fear of getting injured and therefore hurting his chances of being traded. He did it in a very direct way, but he sure got his point across.

There might be something going on in Tampa. Martin St. Louis (one of the classiest players to ever play the game of hockey) demanded a trade from the Lightning after his relationship with Steve Yzerman was ruined. Steven Stamkos was expected to sign his extension by now and he hasn’t. That suggests that something might be going on in Tampa. Drouin’s situation starts to make these things look like a pattern.

Jonathan Drouin was the third overall pick of the Lightning in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. In his rookie season in 2014-2015, he played in 70 regular season games and had 32 points. He was a constant healthy scratch during the playoffs, however. He has played in 19 games for the Lightning this season, but it can be assumed that he won’t play in another one for the Lightning.
