The New York Mets are still interested in signing Yoenis Cespedes and have been in touch with him

The New York Mets have had a bit of an underwhelming offseason. They have shored up their infield and their pitching is going to be nice. However, they have failed to address their huge need in the outfield. They need a power bat in their lineup as well. They solved both of those problems last season when they traded for Yoenis Cespedes. and they remain interested in signing the free agent and have been in touch with him.

The Mets would get a huge boost from bringing back Yoenis Cespedes. Cespedes did an outstanding job with the New York Mets, as he played in 57 games for them last season after they traded for him. Ironically, they only traded for him because their deal for Carlos Gomez fell through at the last minute.

Cespedes had a .287 batting average with a .337 on-base percentage for the Mets. He hit 14 home runs and drove in 44 RBI, and also had a slugging percentage of .604 and a .941 OPS during his time with the Mets. Cespedes helped carry the Mets into the postseason and aided in leading them to the World Series with two home runs in the NLDS against the Dodgers.

Cespedes has poor plate discipline and doesn’t walk much. However, his bat is the kind of bat that the Mets need in their lineup. The Mets have a questionable financial situation at best so they likely won’t be able to sign him to a long-term deal. If it gets to the point where Cespedes has to start looking for short-term deals, the Mets would be a perfect fit.
