Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry defeated cancer and came back to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

After battling lymphoma, Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry came back to the NFL focused and ready to lead his team defensively. In 2015, the Kansas City Chiefs won their first playoff game in 24 years and they had one of the best seasons from Berry, who captured All-Pro honors.

With a season that included a couple of interceptions and plenty of passes defended, Berry helped effectively shut down a portion of the field. To have such a huge battle with cancer and then go out and player better before, Berry inspired not only his team but the entire league with his love of the game.

On Saturday night at the NFL Honors, Berry received what he rightfully earned, as he was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Berry beat out Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer to win the award and took home the award after his All-Pro season. Just the fact that he was able to even to make it onto the field after being diagnosed with cancer was incredible in itself.

To go out and put together an All-Pro season showed the testament and will of a man who loves the game and his team. It was one of the greatest stories in the history of the game and on Saturday, it reached a fitting ending.
