Daytona 500 2016: Starting grid, lineup
Here is the complete starting grid and lineup for the 2016 Daytona 500.
The official start to the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season kicks off on Sunday, with the annual Daytona 500. The Great American Race is one of the most time-honored traditions in American sports and it creates new legends of the sport every single year.
This year will have a new look to the race with Jeff Gordon retiring, but in his place is Chase Elliott, who has wowed everyone so far. Elliott will be on the pole for the Daytona 500 and he has plenty of momentum heading into the race after winning the Xfinity Series race on Saturday.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the heavy favorite in the race heading into Sunday. Earnhardt Jr. has had a couple of great weeks of practice at Daytona and he has won the race a couple of times before. He will have a ton of momentum on Sunday, in the big race.
As for the rest of the field, the Can-Am Duels sorted out the rest of the field and it’s going to be an incredibly competitive field. After a major wreck, guys like Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and others will be starting back in the middle of the pack.
