Sunderland are set to terminate full back Emmanuel Eboue’s contract after he was suspended from football related activity for one year.

It was a surprise when Sunderland signed Emmanuel Eboue off the street on March 9th until the end of the season. The Ivory Coast full back was a symbol of shambles while with Arsenal, once being subbed off after only coming on the pitch from off the bench minutes before, and has not performed well throughout his career in the world of soccer. However, few could have foresaw the troubles the Eboue signing would have caused.

The 32 year old has been banned from all football related activity for a year after it was revealed that he didn’t pay his agent in the Summer of 2013.. Sunderland were apparently unaware of such issues and signed him without knowledge of the forthcoming ban.

It could well be the end of Eboue’s career, as he has continually struggled throughout his tenure with various clubs, and with the addition of a year-long suspension, many clubs may well not want to bring him in.

Sunderland meanwhile are in the end of a relegation battle with age old rivals Newcastle and newly promoted Norwich. Two of the three will be relegated come the end of the season and Sunderland could rue the suspension of Eboue if his absence does result in relegation. Sam Allardyce was brought in to keep the side up, and he will need all of his players to step up to the plate. Unfortunately, Eboue will no longer be a crucial ingredient.
