More details continue to leak out in the wake of the murder of former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith.

The New Orleans Police department searched the Mercedes-Benz SUV of former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith after he was shot and murdered and found a fully loaded 9 mm handgun.

According to nola.com, there is no evidence to suggest Smith fired the fun and police did not confirm if the handgun belonged to Smith or if it belonged to his passengers on the night he was murdered in the Lower Garden District.

Investigators found no evidence to suggest the gun was fired, and police did not say if the weapon belonged to Smith or another person inside the car the night of his death.

The attorney for Cardell Hayes who was arrested and charged with shooting Smith claims there was second weapon other than Hayes’ at the murder scene. Police said they found a fully loaded revolver inside Hayes’ Hummer H2 but the shell casings and ballistic evidence at the scene indicate the revolver wasn’t fired either, according to police who did not reveal who is the owner of the revolver.

The shell casings match matched a .45-caliber handgun police say Hayes used to shoot the former Saints player and his wife Racquel Smith who was shot in the leg.

The discovery of the additional weapons comes three days after the murder and after the police obtained a search warrant to make sure they were doing everything appropriately with such a high-profile case.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Tyler Gamble said it’s a methodical process.

“It takes time to process evidence and these types of inventories are done in a very methodical way,” Gamble said.

Police also revealed two other passengers, an unidentified man and woman, were traveling with Smith and his wife, but no explanation was given why that wasn’t revealed days ago.

There will be more details revealed as the investigation continues, but one thing we do know is the city of New Orleans and the Saints community are forever changed because of this tragedy.
