The Dallas Cowboys need a better backup quarterback and Brian Hoyer makes sense, here are five reasons why

Anyone who watched the unspectacular trio of Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore play quarterback in 2015 understands that the Dallas Cowboys need a better backup. In the past the team put a premium on this position, and it’s time to do so once again.

In 2009 the team traded a starting cornerback, Anthony Henry, to the Detroit Lions for their former starter Jon Kitna to be the number two in Dallas. After Kitna retired, the ‘Boys then signed Kyle Orton to be the backup to their starter Tony Romo.

In 2010 Kitna started nine games and led the team to a 4-5 record. For some perspective, this past season the team was 1-11 with Romo injured.

Orton, on the other hand, only started once during his two seasons in Dallas and they lost that game. Still, having a capable passer under center when a starter goes down is a huge plus.

So now that they need to get a backup they can compete with once again, they should consider former Houston Texans and New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer, who reportedly will be released by the Texans.

Hoyer was named the starter for Houston and was 5-4 in his nine starts for the franchise he spent one year with and would make sense as a backup for the Dallas Cowboys. Here are five reasons for Hoyer to stay in state for the 2016 NFL season.
