Answering what exactly the winner of the NASCAR All-Star Race gets as his or her prize

The 2016 NASCAR All-Star Race is finally here and it’s one of the most exciting times on the calendar in the sport. Where the traditional races—even the road tracks with all of their lower speeds and more strategic approach—are all essentially based on the same concept, the NASCAR All-Star Race is a whole different ball-game altogether. That’s why everyone’s looking forward to Saturday night, May 21 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

For starters, only the best of the best are competing. The field is determined by drivers who won a race last year, who won races this season, who have won the NASCAR All-Star Race, and who win mini-races to qualify leading up to the finale on Saturday night.

Things are also vastly different in regards to format. Rather than just having a number of miles to go, the NASCAR All-Star Race is broken up into three portions. There are two 50-lap portions to start the race and then that all ends with a 13-lap mad dash to determine the winner. It’s one of the most exciting times in all of racing annually.

With such a unique format, though, some people might be asking what’s in it for these drivers outside of pride. Well the answer there is quite a lot. The winner of the NASCAR All-Star Race gets a $1 million—and the bragging rights as well. Not bad for a fun, exciting days worth of work.
