After debating bringing back former Baylor Bears head coach Art Briles after a one-year suspension, it seems that Baylor is wisely moving on from Briles.

According to Chip Brown of HornsDigest.com, covering Texas Longhorns football with Scout.com, “two sources close to the [Baylor Bears] situation told HornsDigest.com Wednesday a push by an influential group of big-money donors to bring Art Briles back as Baylor’s football coach after a one-year suspension is dead.” Baylor University is also in the process of negotiating a buyout of Briles’ contract with the Power 5 school.

This news of Briles possibly returning as the Bears’ football coach came about after reports of a vote to re-instate Briles after a one-year suspension was considered on Monday night. Briles was the winningest coach in Baylor football history and had taken this former Big 12 doormat to national prominence in eight years on the job.

However, with the rampant allegations of sexual assault surrounding the Baylor football program and the nonchalant manner with which the university and the football team handled them, there was no conceivable way that Briles could return to Waco and coach Baylor.

Had Briles been giving a second chance with Baylor in 2017, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that the NCAA would threaten to use the Death Penalty on the Baylor football program.

Baylor may not ever recover from this sexual assault scandal, as the Bears were in the midst of their heyday as a Power 5 behemoth. Former Wake Forest Demon Deacons head coach Jim Grobe will guide the Bears in 2016 and may be considered for the full-time opening coming at the end of the 2016 NCAA season.

To think that bringing back Briles was even on the table for some of the biggest Baylor boosters is a testament to how winning can warp the minds of those who haven’t experience it before.
