The New York Islanders are reportedly looking to move away from Brooklyn and one spot that they are looking at is Belmont Park.

The New York Islanders just moved to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn last season. They are apparently already not happy with the arena and fans have complained about the terrible sight lines while players loathe the long commute to Brooklyn. The Isles are reportedly considering options to move out of Brooklyn. One place that they are looking at is Belmont Park.

From Newsday:

"The [Isles] are in discussions with state officials about building a new hockey arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, a move that would bring the team back to Nassau after they left to play in Brooklyn last year, according to sources familiar with the negotiations."

Isles management and the New York Racing Authority have discussed options that would move the Isles to Belmont Park. That would likely make the players happy because the commute would be much easier. While sight lines are something that are hard to predict until hockey is actually played in an arena, it’s hard to imagine that fans would protest to an easier commute as well, seeing as how that has been an issue with Barclays Center.

The Islanders are coming off their first second round appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs since the 1990s. It seems like perhaps their move to Brooklyn has backfired. If it has, at least the Isles have realized this before it’s too late.
