Kurt Angle has said there is mutual interest between himself and the WWE as far as his return to the professional wrestling company.

There have been rumors for some time now that Kurt Angle would return to the WWE again. While fans have continued to hope he’ll surprise everyone at the latest pay-per-view, it’s yet to happen. It could still happen, but it may take a bit more time. Angle recently talked about the possibilities.

According to Cageside Seats, Angle recently went on The Ric Flair Show podcast and said he and Triple H had a “very loose conversation. Angle also added, “They have interest, I have interest.” However, the biggest takeaway from it all was Angle saying “If I go back to WWE it would most likely be the year or year after.”

Now for the bad news. Angle, who is currently 47-years-old, would probably not be competing in matches due to his age. After seeing what went down with Sting when he came to WWE in the past few years, it just seems unlikely. However, there have been examples of older stars competing in matches in different capacities.

That includes guys like Ric Flair, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Sgt. Slaughter. All have competed in matches at an older age. Even 67-year-old Bob Backlund has been part of some recent physical confrontations, taking bumps around or in the ring.

Triple H himself is 47 right now. The Undertaker, real name Mark Calaway, is currently 51 and expected to compete in at least one more match. That said, Angle could still potentially do something if he and the company wanted to.

Most likely, Angle’s return would be more of a guest referee role or to serve some sort of ringside function. In all reality, the most important reason to bring Angle back to WWE would probably be to make sure he goes into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the roster. He’d also make a great promotional figure for an upcoming version of that WWE 2K video game series, following in the footsteps of legends Sting and Goldberg.
