In wake of the ongoing protests during the national anthem at NFL stadiums, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is receiving death threats for joining the movement.

In a recent interview with “60 Minutes Sports”, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin claims he’s receiving death threats for speaking out about the need to review police tactics in the wake of minorities being shot by police across the country.

These highly-publicized incidents have been cause for much conversation and debate but receiving death threats when a person is simply trying to prevent any additional unjust killings is inexcusable.

"”I had a few. A couple of people told me to watch my back,” Baldwin said."

The full interview will air on Showtime on Tuesday night.

Baldwin isn’t the only athlete to receive death threats for standing up against police brutality. Several NFL players, youth football teams and a few members of the Nebraska Cornhuskers have all received alarming threats.

Look, as much as we may try to avoid it, there’s no denying the obvious racial tension in this country and although it may seem new to some, this has been going on for hundreds of years. The only difference now is that we have social media and athletes have a bigger platform to spread awareness.

Therefore, it doesn’t matter if Colin Kaepernick is a backup quarterback or not because his message is something that will never be forgotten.

Think about it, even if you don’t agree with Kaepernick’s movement, you can’t ignore the fact that he’s created something historic and bigger than him. Ever since Kaepernick decided to kneel during the national anthem in preseason play, everyone else has followed suit.

Thankfully, we all live in a country that gives you the right to stand for what you believe in, which is the complete irony of those upset with Baldwin and others. Yes, there’s other ways to go about it, but at the end of the day, these athletes are using their constitutional rights to attempt to receive change from our great police force.
