Announcing the FanSided Fandom 250; the fan-powered network’s inaugural ranking of the world’s 250 best fandoms.

This year, FanSided is unveiling its Fandom 250 list, celebrating the best fanbases in the world, whether it be sports, entertainment, or anything that people identify and resonate with. Over the course of November, FanSided will be unveiling fanbases that have made the list 10 at a time, with the full rankings to be published on December 6th.

The first batch of nominees include some obvious choices for anyone celebrating enthusiastic fan bases.

Iconic NFL franchises like the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders are not only succesful on the field, but have ravenous supporters in the stands. Cowboys’ fans nationwide presence earned them the moniker, “America’s Team.” Steelers fans made a yellow towel an iconic symbol and Raiders fans have made a hole in a corner of the stadium known as the “Black Hole.”

When it comes to college football, four of the most notorious fanbases in the country have made the list. The rivalry between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines is considered the best in all of sports, largely because of their respective spirited school-color clad supporters. The fanbases of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Alabama Crimson Tide are steeped in history and ritual that goes back decades.

From the entertainment side of the world, Tyler Perry, Lena Dunham, and Shonda Rhimes have made the list. Tyler Perry is a jack of all trades known primarily for his movies centered around the Madea character. Lena Dunham created and stars in the massively popular HBO series Girls. Shonda Rhimes cultivated a huge following by creating hit shows Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, both of which have cultivated their own remarkable fanbases.
