Michael Floyd cut by Cardinals following DUI arrest

The Cardinals have cut Michael Floyd following his arrest on a DUI charge.

The nightmare season continues for the Arizona Cardinals with the release of Michael Floyd. Floyd, who was the 13th pick in the 2012 draft, was arrested early Monday morning in Scottsdale, AZ. Police found the wide receiver unconscious behind the wheel of a running vehicle. This marks the second DUI in five years for Floyd, who was arrested on the same charge back in 2011 while at Notre Dame.

Though Floyd is a talented player, it seems the Cardinals are making a statement by cutting the fifth-year wideout:

Floyd hasn’t done much in 2016, catching 33 balls for 446 yards and four touchdowns. He showed promise back in 2013 by eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark but has yet to reach the 900-yard mark now for three consecutive seasons. He was set to become a free agent at the end of the season and obviously does himself no favors in increasing his value.

Nevertheless, while Floyd is a bit troubled, he’s a talented receiver. He should receive plenty of attention from receiver-needy teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Philadelphia Eagles. The Notre Dame product has had trouble consistently producing on the field but has proven himself to be one of the best deep threats in the NFL.

The Cardinals will move on from Floyd with Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and J.J. Nelson at wide receiver. With Fitzgerald reaching the end of his career and Brown struggling to stay on the field, receiver will be a position of need this offseason for the Cardinals.

Quarterback Carson Palmer hasn’t exactly done the team any favors this year with his declining play. While there is plenty of blame to go around, none can be pointed at running back David Johnson who has been a swiss army knife all year.
