5 possible new jobs for former Rams coach Jeff Fisher
After being fired by the Los Angeles Rams this week, Jeff Fisher wants to keep coaching. Here are five possible jobs for him.
After tying Dan Reeves for the most losses by a head coach in NFL history, Jeff Fisher was fired as head coach of the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. He has a 173-165-1 record over 22 seasons as a head coach, including a 31-45-1 mark as coach of the Rams over the last five seasons, and Fisher doesn’t think he’s done as an NFL coach.
In an interview that will air in full on Fox’s pre-game show Sunday. Fisher said “I want a chance to play the Rams.” He also stated the obvious that he didn’t win enough games, while also suggesting he wasn’t going be in place as head coach when the Rams’ new stadium opens in 2019.
Fisher is clearly well-connected within the NFL and the media that covers it. So if he wants another head coaching job his name will be out there, even if his track record shouldn’t make him a top candidate for openings.
Fisher had a season off between head coaching jobs with the Tennessee Titans and the Rams, and a similar situation could come now. That said, here are five potential new jobs for Fisher.
5. Television Analyst
Assuming the likelihood of a year out of coaching in 2017, Fisher should have little trouble landing an analyst gig. That wouldn’t necessarily have to be limited to the networks that cover the NFL, as Fisher could probably comfortably analyze college football, too.
Being willing to consider a job covering college football would open up more options for Fisher, from ESPN all they way down to the conference-specific networks. Even if it’s only a one-year hiatus from coaching, TV is a viable landing spot for Fisher next football season.
