In light of recent revelations that Russia interfered with the United State presidential election, relations between the two countries are tense with Americans becoming more suspicious of Russian involvement in domestic affairs. This was evident when Atlanta-based rapper 2 Chainz claimed that Russia interfered in his 3-point shootout against hall-of-fame basketball player Dominique Wilkins on Tuesday.

“This was a total setup. I want a recount,” Mr. Chainz said. “I feel like Russia had something to do with this.”

Mr. Chainz engaged Mr. Wilkins in an event at Philips Arena Tuesday to promote an upcoming concert appearance. Mr. Chainz—who this year rapped “Walk in the zoo, say ‘Pick a fur’”–lost to Mr. Wilkins 7-6 in the first round.

Mr. Chainz–who bragged “I wear pajamas to Ruth Chris, Couldn’t walk a mile in my new kicks” on Kanye West’s Champions earlier in 2016–at that time demanded a rematch. Mr. Wilkins, not in the least bit intimidated by the Atlanta rapper, was like “sure.” Mr. Wilkins won the second round 9-5.

It was after that round that Mr. Chainz, who exclaimed “2 CHAINZ” after almost every shot in the second round, became suspicious of Russian interference.

While Russia’s motives for controlling the outcome of this shootout are clear, Mr. Chainz’s accusations are questionable considering his own efforts to influence the results of Mr. Wilkins’ 3-point shooting production, as seen in the following footage.

At the time of this post, plans to investigate the event have not been announced and The White House had yet to respond to The Step Back’s request for a comment.

Mr. Chainz did, however, express his desire for another rematch, saying after the event that next time he would like to play for the rights to a statue outside of Philips Arena.
