Steve Kerr gets $25,000 fine for tirade vs. Kings

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr got a well-deserved ejection on Saturday night, and now his fine from the league is known to the public.

The Golden State Warriors lost their eighth game of the season to the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night, 109-106 in overtime. But head coach Steve Kerr was not there to see the end of the game, as a technical foul on Draymond Green was apparently the last straw in the third quarter and Kerr was promptly ejected.

Kerr clearly said a few magic words to the officials, as evidenced here (NSFW), so he earned his ejection from the game.

The Warriors coach went from 0-to-100 on the rage scale very quickly, and comically from a certain perspective, Saturday night. It was clearly only a matter of time before he heard from the league about a fine, and on Monday afternoon the expected news came.

Kerr has been fined a few times fairly recently for criticizing officials. During a November radio interview earlier this season he cited a blooper reel of traveling calls during a prior game against the Toronto Raptors, and Kerr was also fined for critiquing the officials during last year’s NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Those fines were also $25,000, which looks like the standard, cookie cutter financial hit for a coach who criticizes or otherwise verbally berates officials.

Only Kerr knows if he got his proverbial “money’s worth” by lashing out at the officials and getting ejected against the Kings. The Kings had the lead when he departed, and the Warriors did rally to force overtime, but an ejection as a possible motivational ploy would surely ring hollow with a team like Golden State.
