If you believe the rumors, Adrian Peterson is set to have a robust market for his services.

Before the Minnesota Vikings even officially decided not to pick up his contract option, Adrian Peterson suggested he’d like to play for the New York Giants, Houston Texans or Tampa Bay Buccaneers during an appearance on ESPN. He went a little further in regard to the Giants a couple weeks ago, tweeting about the “interesting moves’ that team had made to clear salary cap space.

A more recent nugget from the Boston Herald said Peterson would consider signing with the New England Patriots at a discount. That’s not surprising if winning a Super Bowl is his top priority but questions about Peterson’s willingness to accept an inconsistent role won’t go away.

The legal tampering period for free agency started on Tuesday, and we’ve gotten more news about teams Peterson would like to play for.

Stacey Dales of NFL Network points to the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks as two of Peterson’s desirable landing spots, per her source which is likely Peterson or his agent. This isn’t the first time the Raiders have been mentioned, with ESPN’s Josina Anderson reporting last week they had “caught the attention” of Peterson.

With all these reports of teams Peterson wants to play for, it could easily be believed a lot of teams want him. But a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo has already suggested there’s nothing going on between Peterson and the Patriots, and it can be assumed other teams are waiting in a similar fashion before making contact.

Once the top of the market at the position is established and teams still have a need to fill at running back, then Peterson’s actual value will be clearer. At this point, he’s still just spit-balling teams he wants to play for, with the media as his vehicle to establish a list of suitors that doesn’t seem to currently exist.
