The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season starts with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Here’s how you can watch the race live, on TV and online.

Fans of the Verizon IndyCar Series don’t have to wait any longer. The 2017 open-wheel racing season gets underway on Sunday with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud comes to Florida as the defending series champion after winning five of 16 races last year. That was roughly one victory every three events for the Frenchman, who will be looking for his second title in three seasons driving the No. 22 Team Penske Chevrolet.

But Pagenaud will have no shortage of competition. The IndyCar talent pool is remarkably deep, including new Penske arrival Josef Newgarden, who wants to make a big splash in his major team debut. Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi is also a driver on the rise, searching for more than one win as he enters his sophomore season with Andretti Autosport.

And 2016 Indy Lights champion Ed Jones makes his move up to the major leagues in 2016. Jones will drive the No. 19 for Dale Coyne Racing. Will he or anyone else challenge Pagenaud?
