After leaving Tennessee midseason last year, Jalen Hurd is continuing his tour in search of a new school.

Last October, running back Jalen Hurd decided to leave the Tennessee football program and transfer to another school. Declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft was also an option, but at this late point in the process the supplemental draft is the only option left to take that step to the pros this year.

There were early indications Hurd wanted to switch to tight end or wide receiver at a new school, but it’s unclear if that’s still on his radar. Visits to Cal, Ohio State and Louisville have come over the last two or three months, but Hurd has yet to settle on where he will transfer to. With spring practices starting to wrap up with spring games around the country, Hurd is taking another visit this weekend.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports.com, Hurd is taking an official visit to Baylor this weekend. He is allotted five official visits, and with Oregon as a rumored landing spot that school could be next on Hurd’s tour. Time appears to be of the essence at this point, particularly if he wants to switch positions, but Hurd may still not make a decision for a month or two.

Hurd will not depart from Tennessee as a graduate transfer, so he will have to sit out the 2017 season regardless of where he lands. That may explain a lack of real urgency to find a landing spot, inexplicable as it seems. A report from Jimmy Hyams of WNML radio in March shut the door on a possible return to Knoxville, while adding speculation about Hurd entering the NFL supplemental draft.

Hurd left Tennessee 445 yards short of surpassing Travis Henry as the school’s all-time leading rusher. With 1,288 rushing yards (4.6 yards per carry) and 12 touchdowns in his last full season (2015), plus contributions as a pass catcher over the 2014 and 2015 seasons (57 combined receptions), he will bring something to whatever football program he suits up for next.
