Here’s how you watch the release of the NFL regular season schedule for 2017.

The NFL has cornered the market on making trivial, fairly meaningless things involving whatever they do into televised events, and the annual release of the regular season schedule is one of the newer ones. Each team’s opponents are already known, with home and away designations too, so it’s just a matter of placing the games in each week with times and bye weeks being placed for each team.

This year’s schedule will be released on Thursday night, and here’s how you can watch it on television and online.

Date: Thursday, April 20, 2017
Time: 8-10 p.m. ET
Television: NFL Network
Online: NFL.com

NFL Network is exclusively releasing the 2017 regular season schedule on their air, which is to be expected since they are the league’s branded media outlet. But ESPN will have a traditional breakdown alongside and immediately after it, with their bevy of NFL analysts reacting to each team’s 16-game slate with supposedly astute analysis and way-too-early predictions.

The typical Thursday night season opener has been rumored to be the Kansas City Chiefs traveling to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. That has to be officially confirmed of course, but it would be a surprise if that’s not the case. The other prime time national games are also a point of interest during the schedule release, if that’s your cup of tea, including the traditional Monday night season-opening double header on ESPN.

Our appetite for football makes it certain the NFL schedule release will be well followed, viewed and of course reacted to. No fan will see a loss on their favorite team’s schedule, this side of the Cleveland Browns perhaps, but schedule release night is one of the times where optimism clearly reigns.
