Jaguars Get
2018 4th Round Pick
Lions Get
Running back T.J. Yeldon

The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the bigger disappointments of the 2016 NFL season, as their big-time free agent pickups did little to help. Quarterback Blake Bortles took a major step back in his development, as the team found itself back in the cellar of the AFC South. They have done an incredible jop of stockpiling talent this offseason, especially at running back, where they selected LSU star Leonard Fournette No. 4 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Fournette is going to be a difference maker at the next level, which is something that T.J. Yeldon never became as the feature back in Jacksonville. The team also brought in Chris Ivory to share the load last season, so there is depth behind Yeldon and Fournette on the chart. Jacksonville can afford to unload one of their running backs, and Yeldon makes the most sense.

At the NFL level, Fournette figures to be a workhiorse type of back, one that can have the same impact on his team as Ezekiel Elliott did as a rookie in Dallas last season. In exchange for Yeldon, the Jags could request a fourth-round pick back from the Detroit Lions, who could certainly use the depth at the running back position. The Jaguars look to be building for the future, and more draft picks is the way to go at this point.

There is no telling how the AFC South is going to shape up, as each team had a nice offseason. Yeldon has no place in the offense going forward, but could find a nice new start in Detroit. This trade definitely benefits both teams.
