Fantasy Baseball Help-Spot Starter Selection-Tuesday, June 5
If your fantasy baseball ERA is already on the rocks for this week, there’s still plenty of time to get things turned around. With a full schedule of MLB games Tuesday, there are plenty of options if you’re looking to add starting pitchers.
Make sure to come back Tuesday for the return of Sleeper Central and more spot starter selections for Wednesday.
Here’s my picks for Tuesday:
The Picks
Homer Bailey-Cin: (18.5% ownership in ESPN leagues) Bailey will be high on everyone’s list for today so you’ll need to move quickly if you want to secure him for today. He’ll lead the Reds against Pittsburgh in Cincinnati looking to build on his best start of the year. Last time out he faced the Pirates too and shut them down limiting them to a run on four hits while collecting his second career complete game. Bailey was pitching well heading into that game and has five quality starts in a row and nine of his last ten. He’s 4-3 on the year with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He’s not a lock since he does have some ugly lines from earlier in the year where he struggled giving up the long ball, but he’s definitely the best option out there in most leagues for Tuesday.
Francisco Liriano-Min: (6.6%) The start of the year west horribly for Liriano as he struggled in six starts seeing his ERA soar over ten and finishing at 9.45 before he was sent to the bullpen for two weeks. The time in the ‘pen seems to have worked wonders for Liriano who looked dominant his last time out throwing six scoreless innings against Oakland while striking out a season-high nine and getting his first win of the season. He’s still a risky addition, but one that could pay off big-time if he can rediscover his previous form. He’ll face a better lineup tonight in KC so it should be a good gauge of if Liriano has truly turned the corner or not. If he can pitch like he did last time out, he’s a great addition for Tuesday’s game.
Garrett Richards-LAA: (0.0%) Truly making a spot start for the Angels, Richards will take the place of the injured Jered Weaver and will make his first start of the year tonight at home against the Mariners. Richards is considered the pitching prospect in LA’s system, but he wasn’t tearing up Triple-A so temper your expectations. He gets a nice matchup in his first start of the year and should have a good shot at a W for the streaking Angels.
