Starting Pitching Help-Spot Starter Selection-Wednesday, June 6

If you made the same mistake that I did on Monday night and thought that Will Smith against the Twins would do better than Jarrod Parker against the Rangers (oops), you need some starting pitching help. However you got to the place where you need starting pitchers, don’t worry there’s some great options on Wednesday.

If fact, there’s four good options that I like who are available in over half of ESPN leagues. Here’s my picks for Wednesday in the order that I would pick them up as well as the results for the last week. For our archive, click here.

The Picks

Felipe Paulino-KC: (owned in 47% of ESPN Leagues) After starting the season on the DL, Paulino has gone 3-1 in six starts. He has allowed seven earned runs in all, but in five of his starts he’s shut out the opposition. He enters the game with a 1.70 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He has 39 strikeouts in 37 innings and is the best option widely available for Wednesday’s games.

Kyle Kendrick-Phi: (4.1%) Kendrick was pounded for seven runs in a game earlier this year which is shy his ERA is an unimpressive 4.02 despite his recent run of solid starts. His last four games he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer and has 16 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. He shut out the Cardinals in St. Louis two starts ago and last time out limited the hot Marlins to two runs in five innings. He’s 2-4 on the year, but is a good start as the Phillies host the Kemp-less Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park.

Jerome Williams-LAA: (12.2%) The Angels host the Mariners on Wednesday and Williams will look to get his seventh win of he year. He hasn’t had a shut-down performance in several outings but hasn’t given up more than three runs in his last four starts either. He beat the M’s two starts ago and will look to improve his 3.68 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He isn’t an elite strikeout option with 42 in 66 innings, but with the Angels playing much better he could/should be in line for a win.

Jose Quintana-ChW: (0.5%) He was ejected from his last start, but Quintana has looked solid while filling in for John Danks during the White Sox surge. He’ll face the Blue Jays in his third start in the Majors looking for his second MLB win. He had given up just a solo HR before exiting early in Tampa and had already collected two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. He has a 1.69 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP in his first 16 innings in the bigs and will most likely head back for Triple-A after helping the White Sox and your fantasy team in a spot start role.
