Waiver Wire Work-Fantasy Baseball Sleeper Central-June 21

Yesterday was another full Wednesday of action across Major Legue Baseball. Many of the sleepers highlighted in this daily post are either under-performers starting to bounce back and turn things around or late-bloomers who were once loaded with potential but have struggled to realize it. Both kinds of players can be useful if their turnarounds are long-lasting and they can stay consistent. After spending last night at Fenway Park, I spent this morning digging through the boxscores for hidden gems. Here’s what my search unearthed.

Sleeper Starting Lineup

C– Wilin Rosario – Col: (7.2%) Rosario went 2-4 with a double and his tenth home run of the season while scoring two runs and driving in three for the Rockies last night. He continues to see solid time behind the plate and contributes with extra-base hits, home runs, and RBI while being a liability in batting average and strikeouts. Rosario has bee

1B– Brandon Moss – Oak: (43.2%) Covered in today’s waiver wire weekly, Moss hit his seventh home run in just 13 games this season. He’s added 12 RBI and 11 runs while batting .279. He’s red-hot and is a solid pickup in all formats until he cools off.

2B– Gordon Beckham – ChW: (33.9%) Last night, Beckham went 2-4 with his ninth home run while driving in four to lead the White Sox past the Cubs 7-0. He’s raised his average to .238 on the season with 31 RBI and 35 runs scored. As long as he’s near the top of the ChiSox lineup he’ll be a good source of RBI and runs if you can take his slight hit in batting average.

3B– Ryan Roberts – Ari: (28.7%) Tatt-man has picked up the pace after a horrible start. In April he hit .152, and followed it up with .288 in May. In June so far, he’s up to .304 and is settling back in at 3B. He went 2-4 yesterday with an inside-the-park home run and three RBI bringing his totals to five home runs and 29 RBI.

SS– Everth Cabrera – SD: (6.2%) Going 3-4, Cabrera raised his average to .262 while adding his 11th steal in 11 attempts. He’s a cheap steals option in deep leagues and seems to be settled at SS and in the second spot in the Padres lineup.

OF– Casper Wells – Sea: (0.4%) Wells hit third in the M’s lineup and went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He’s hitting .309 with 12 RBI and 11 runs in just 68 at-bats for the Mariners and should get playing time as Seattle’s fourth outfielder in the near future.

OF– Daniel Nava – Bos: (9.2%) Lately, Nava has been battling a hand injury which has limited him to late-inning defensive replacement and pinch-hitting duty. He was back atop the lineup last night though and had four singles going 4-5 with two runs scored raising his average to .333 in 102 at-bats with 20 RBI and 21 runs scored. With Scott Podsednik becoming the latest Red Sox outfielder on the DL, Nava should be at the top of the lineup in the near future for Boston.

OF– Cody Ross – Bos: (32.8%) In his second game back from the DL, Ross didn’t hit a home run, but he did have a bases clearing three-run double. He’s played 39 games when healthy and has nine home runs and 32 RBI. He’s a good power-source in the outfield if you need RBI and home runs and tends to run hot-and-cold. He looks hot now, so grab him if you can.

AL Starting Pitcher– Francisco Liriano – Min: (13.3%) In his longest start of the season, Liriano went 6.2 innings allowing a run on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Since returning to the rotation, he’s been a solid option as a spot-starter and in AL only leagues.

NL Starting Pitcher– Dillon Gee – NYM : (7.5%) Striking out nine and walking just two, he pitched 7.1 innings while allowing two runs on three hits and picking up the win. He’s 5-5 on the year with a 4.27 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. He hasn’t been this good lately, but he hasn’t been hammered in over a month either. He’s an option in good matchups going forward.

Relief Pitcher– Kelvin Herrera – KC: (0.1%) To pick up his 10th hold of the season, Herrera struck out all four of the Astros he faced giving him six strikeouts in his last two appearances spanning 2.1 innings. He’s been effective out of the Royals ‘pen and has a 3.11 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 32 games.
