2012 NBA Draft Grades: Bucks Select John Henson
Pick 14: Milwaukee Bucks
Selection: John Henson
Bryan Rosa – A Royal Pain
While I won’t go as far as to say it’s a steal, it’s a fantastic pick for the Bucks as their slightly depleted front line gets a boost from Henson who’s a tough as nails talent. Many had Henson going in the top 10, so falling to 14 is a mini-miracle for the Bucks who have to be thrilled with the selection. Paired with the newly acquired Samuel Dalembert, an improved front line will give Buck fans much to be happy about this year.

Henson is an interesting fit in Milwaukee, a roster stocked with length and mobility inside but devoid of any real size. How different is he from Larry Sanders, the Bucks’ 2010 first round pick? He’s an awesome shot-blocker and has the potential to defend multiple positions, but is raw offensively and doesn’t appear to have much room to grow. Would his former teammate, Tyler Zeller, not have been a better pick?

Bryan Wendland-Roberto Gato
They traded Andrew Bogut away, so they needed some size. They got it in Henson, and they got a guy who has a lot of room to grow offensively. He’ll be a good defender and rebounder next season, and I think he could turn into one of the better players drafted in 2012. There are questions about his strength, but after a full offseason with NBA trainers, I think those concerns will go away. The Bucks also could’ve used a wing, but I can’t complain about what they did with the 14th pick.
Grade: B+
Quixem Ramirez- Air Alamo
Chad Ford had Henson going to Detroit at No. 9. At the 14th pick, this is a great value. He blocks a ton of shots (9.6% of UNC’s possessions), rebounds and has a reliable mid-range game. Henson will be good insurance just in case Milwaukee can’t retain unrestricted free agent Ersan Illyasova.
