2012 NBA Draft Grades: Pacers Select Miles Plumlee

Pick 26: Indiana Pacers
Selection: Miles Plumlee

Bryan Rosa – A Royal Pain

Plumlee does a lot of things pretty well, but that’s his problem – he just does them “well”, nothing unique or great which you generally need to be successful at the NBA level. My worry for Plumlee is he’ll struggle to find floor time at a consistent level. Think the Pacers should’ve looked into something with a bit more upside, maybe Perry Jones who’s little risk this late.

Considered an undrafted free agent early in the process, Plumlee’s stock rose at various senior camps and the pre-draft combine. He has nice size and is a very, very good athlete, but Plumlee has little in the way of offensive skill and is likely behind similar hustle players Tyler Hansbrough and Lou Amundson in Indy’s rotation. If there was ever a spot for Perry Jones, this was it.

Quixem Ramirez- Air Alamo

This is a really safe pick. Ford said he could be the “next Jeff Foster” which, unless you are an unabashed Foster supporter, isn’t the best player to be compared to. Plus, he’ll be 24-years-old before his first game. Ehhhh.

Are you serious? Miles Plumlee. Miles… Plumlee. Don’t the Pacers already have Tyler Hansbrough? Sure he’s almost a 7-footer. Sure he’s got some size. Sure he’s not a terrible athlete, but with guys like Jeffrey Taylor, Perry Jones III and Doron Lamb on board… How can you go with Miles Plumlee? Wow.
