Fantasy Baseball-July 6 Spot Starters from the Waiver Wire

Heading into the last weekend of the first half, many fantasy teams are looking for starting pitching. If you spent the 4th in a fireworks-induce coma and need to make some changes to your lineup, here’s three solid starting pitching options scheduled to go Friday that can help you regain your equilibrium headed into the All-Star break.

The Pickup Possibilities

Travis Wood – ChC: (9.1%) Wood has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last five starts and hasn’t allowed a run in his last two. The Cubs visit Citi Field on Friday and Wood will look to dominate the Mets like he did two starts ago at Wrigley. For the month of June, Wood had a 2.27 ERA and a 2-2 record while allowing just eight runs in 31.2 innings. The Cubs have been playing better baseball of late and they’ll look to close out the first half with this three-game set starting Friday night.

Tommy Milone – Oak: (21.3%) Despite getting knocked around by Texas his last time out, Milone makes a nice pickup headed into Friday’s game against Seattle. The start in Texas looks a little worse than it was since five of the six runs he allowed were unearned and he has a 2-1 lead entering the fifth inning which proved to be his last. This time out, he’ll get a Mariners offense that has struggled all season. Two starts ago Milone held them scoreless for seven innings picking up his eighth win of the year. He comes into this start with a 8-6 record to go with his 3.73 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. He’s not an elite strikeout pitcher with 63 in 101.1 innings but he’s been a great addition for the A’s and his fantasy owners so far this season.

Josh Collmenter – Ari: (0.1%) His 4.41 ERA and 0-2 record may scare people off, but Collmenter has been much better as of late. He had been working out of the bullpen prior to his last appearance when he went six innings against the Brewers allowing a run on three hits while striking out five. He isn’t expected to stay in the rotation after the All-Star break, but he’s a solid pickup if you need some innings. He’s matched up against the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw so he won’t be favored to get the win, but the Dodgers will be without Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier making it possible to see a solid start for Collementer in the desert this Friday.
