If you need help finishing the first half of your fantasy baseball season on a positive note, there are four starting pitchers who are scheduled to start on Sunday  who you should consider picking up. None of these four are without significant risk. They all have their down-sides, but they are the four best spot starter options for you to add for Sunday.
Spot Starter Selections
Jair Jurrjens – Atl: (19%) Jurrjens will make his fourth start since returning to the big leagues Sunday against Philadelphia. The Phillies have struggled to score runs lately despite getting Ryan Howard back from injury. Jurrjens has allowed just three earned runs in his three starts over 18.1 innings. He only has six strikeouts, but he’s the best widely available option if you need WHIP, ERA, and wins support and can live with low strikeout numbers.
Joe Kelly – Stl: (1.1%) The Cards send Kelly to the mound against the Marlins to close out their first half. Kelly will face off against a struggling Anibal Sanchez. Kelly has been solid if not dominating in his first five starts in the Major Leagues this year. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any one start and has a 3.29 ERA to go with a 1.50 WHIP and a 1-1 record. The Cardinals should be able to provide the run-support the rookie needs to get a W if he can have another solid outing before the break.
Marco Estrada – Mil: (1.6%) Estrada is only on this list because he’s in a nice matchup against the Houston Astros who have been struggling to put anything on the board recently. They’ve lost nine in a row and have scored one run in their last two games coming into Saturday’s matchup. Estrada meanwhile, has been stringing together two of his more solid starts of the year. In his last start he gave up two runs on four hits in six innings to the Marlins and the start before that he struck out 12 Reds while allowing three runs in six. In both of those starts he’s received a no-decision and is at 0-3 on the year with a 4.31 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He’s started just eight games and hopefully his ninth one will get him his first win of the year headed into the All-Star break.
Zach McAllister – Cle: (0.6%) AL-only leaguers are in a tough spot if you need pitching. McAllister is your best option most likely as he and the Indians close out their first half at home against Tampa Bay. McAllister has won each of his last two starts and has allowed three runs or fewer in all but one of his six starts. He comes into this one with a 3-1 record, a 3.93 ERA, and a 1.28 WHIP. He hasn’t worked deep into games yet (seven innings is his longest outing) and he hasn’t faced the Rays either. It’s a high-risk play, but McAllister has looked in control lately with a 14:1 strikeout to walk ratio in his last three starts.
