Fantasy Baseball Pitching Pickup Options for Tuesday, July 25

After a day off yesterday, our picks return for another week of action to help you find starting pitchers on the waiver wire that can help you win your pitching stats. With all the teams in the league returning to the field on Tuesday night, there are 30 starters ready to take the ball and get their team the W. Many starters are too owned to help you if they aren’t already on your team, but here four who are available in over half of ESPN leagues who I think offer a good chance at a solid start Tuesday.

The Picks

Jose Quintana – CHW: (33.4% ownership in ESPN leagues) Quintana shut down the Red Sox at Fenway his last time out hurling eight shutout innings. He takes the mound against Minnesota Tuesday against Cole De Vries. Quintana has been expecially good at home where he’s 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA in four games started. He’s the best widely available option for Tuesday.

Edinson Volquez – SD: (34.5%) Coming off a one-hit gem at home against Houston, Volquez faces the Giants in San Francisco Tuesday. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in and of his last five starts while going 3-0. The Giants and Padres are built to play low-scoring games and this matchup between Volquez and Madison Bumgarner will most likely follow that script. Volquez could be a bit fatigued after 117 pitches and will be out of Petco which is why he’s option 1a behind Quintana, but he’s still a solid option against San Fran.

Garrett Richards – LAA: (7.0%) Richards has some ugly starts prior to the All-Star break but bounced back with a nice seven-inning effort shutting out the Tigers his last start. He’s 3-1 on the year and in four of his seven starts he’s allowed zero or one run. The problem is that in the others he’s given up three, ten, and seven. He will face off Tuesday against the Royals at home which gives him a solid chance to lock down his end-of-the-rotation spot for the Angels who should be able to provide him with run support as their rejuvenated Trout-Trumbo lineup faed Will Smith who is 1-3 with a 7.97 ERA.

Travis Blackley – Oak: (0.8%) Blackley held Texas to three runs while pitching into the sixth his last time out and in his four previous starts had been even better. In those four appearances he allowed six runs in 28 innings and making four quality starts. He enters this game with an exceptional 1.07 WHIP and a solid 2.86 ERA since joining Oakland. Tuesday he’ll face a tough Blue Jays lineup in Toronto but should get some run support as the Jays send Brett Cecil and his 6.34 ERA to oppose him. He won’t rack up K’s (38 in 61.2 innings) but he’s a solid option if you need a solid start and a possible win.
