Top Ten Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups- July 26
By SH
It’s that time of the year. Sellers come out, and players pack their bags. It’s like Christmas time to fantasy owners. So many doors can be opened through trades, and I pointed out one below. But this next week, many more may occur so besides these 10 potential studs I talk about here, keep your eyes peeled and phone in hands because you don’t want to miss a break out player appear via trade. But before that deadline occurs, here is a handful of breakouts this last week who can really make impacts on your playoff push.
1. Anibal Sanchez, DET SP – You’re gonna judge my list, but I don’t care. I have 3 of my homer Tigers on here, but I truly think they will be impact players down the stretch. Sanchez has been very effective and has flown under the radar all season. A move to the AL Central may be different than the NL, but the Tigers have the 2nd easiest remaining schedule. I see Anibal being a very key player for fantasy teams and if he isn’t owned yet, grab him.
2. Edinson Volquez, SD SP – It seemed like he had fallen off the Earth after leaving Cincinnati, but he’s back. He just threw a 1 hitter last week with his first complete game of his career, and he continues his torrid pace. It’s tough when he plays for the Padres, but I still think he will finish these next two months strong.
3. Starling Marte, PIT OF – Another one of my prospects getting the call. Marte is considered an über prospect, meaning they expect him to be a big deal. He is making his debut tomorrow, and will be a mainstay in the outfield for the Bucs. Him and McCutchen should compliment each other quite well.
4. Brennan Boesch, DET OF – I predicted Boesch would have a break out year, but I’ve sadly been mistaken. However lately, he has been picking it up. The Tigers are on a roll and he is a big part of it. He has the power potential and can drive in many runs from the 6 slot. He’s a must add in my mind.
5. Paul Maholm, CHC SP – Everyone is talking about Dempster, but they should really change their mind. Maholm has been dominant as of late. His last month has been absolutely spectacular for the subpar Cubbies. He shouldn’t get moved this week, so expect him to continue putting up big numbers against the NL Central.
6. Matt Harvey, NYM SP – The Mets number 2 prospect is making his debut tonight against the Diamondbacks and he is supposed to be legit. They already announced he will be a mainstay in the Mets rotation for the rest of the season, so I would add him before he throws tonight in case he starts off his career with a bang.
7. Mike Fiers, MIL SP – Another under the radar pitcher in the NL Central. Fiers has strung together an amazing run of starts in this hot summer. The Brewers haven’t been as great as people expected, basically out of playoff contention at 13 games back, but that doesn’t effect Fiers’ outings. Go get him.
8. Jhonny Peralta, DET SS – My man Jhonny has been jhoining hitting parade in Detroit. After being an all star last year, Jhonny has been a disappointment a little as well. However, he jhust began to pick it up in Jhuly here so if you need shortstop help, give him a shot.
9. Travis Snider, TOR OF – I missed the 8 ball last week on Snider because he was called up the day after my article was posted. I was all over Anthony Gose, but I really do like Snider’s potential more. He is more of a slugger rather than a base stealer like Gose, and Snider has had major league experience. He is off to a hot start, and should continue to see at bats so definitely keep your eye out.
10. Chris Young, ARZ OF – He had such a hot start then went so cold. But this past week he got his stick rolling again. Not sure if this is legit or not, but if he is about to begin a tear like he had in April, definitely must be in your lineup.
Hello, Waiver Wire!
Once again, I’m going cut throat here. If a guy’s hurt and can’t help you get to the playoffs, no use in my mind. Just make sure he’s not a keeper if you’re in a keeper league.
Ian Desmond – WSH SS (DL), J.P. Arencibia – TOR C (DL), Lance Berkman – STL 1B, Tyler Colvin – COL OF, Dee Gordon – LAD SS (DL), Colby Lewis – TEX SP (DL), Trevor Bauer (Hate to say it) – ARZ SP, Johan Santana – NYM SP (DL), Jair Jurrjens – ATL SP, Ricky Romero – TOR SP
