Starting Pitchers to Search for on the Waiver Wire for August 11

Headed into another full weekend of Major League Baseball, there are definitely some solid starting pitching options on the waivers. If you need to win this week, make the roster moves necessary to pick up these starters going Saturday to give you the innings, wins, and strikeouts you need to finish the week strong.

Pickups for Saturday

Franklin Morales – Bos: (5.5% owned in ESPN leagues) Morales and the Sox face the Indians in Cleveland in a matchup of two teams that have faded from the Wild Card race rather quickly. Morales will me making his seventh start of the year and he’s been superb in four of his other five. As a starter he’s 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 32.1 innings. His one rough start was at home against the Yankees, and on the road he’s been great as both a starter and a reliever with a 1.35 ERA overall on the road in his 15 appearances (three starts). He’s auditioning for a big part in next year’s rotation and should get a nice long look the rest of this season which is great news for fantasy owners.

Chris Tillman – Bal: (13.1%) Tillman is 5-1 in six starts allowing two earned runs or less in five of of his six starts and making it through the fifth in all but one. He dominated the Mariners his last time out allowing a run on five hits in 7.1 innings and tomorrow he’s matched up with Luis Mendoza and the Kansas City Royals. Mendoza has been up and down but hasn’t dominated in his recent starts so look for Tillman to continue his winning ways if he can contribute another quality start.

Kris Medlen – Atl: (17.9%) Medlen’s two starts for the Braves have been steller going a total of 10.1 innings allowing just a pair of runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out nine. He’ll face the Mets Saturday as he continues to increase his pitch count which should allow him to go deeper in games going forward. He’s a good long-term option as well as a one-time start.

Joe Blanton – LAD: (15.2%) Blanton looked good in his first Dodger start going six against the Cubs allowing just two runs. Saturday he’ll face the Marlins and Ricky Nolasco as he looks for his first LA win and to level his season record at 9-9. Nolasco won’t be reaching the .500 mark as he’s 8-11 with a 4.95 ERA and has been pounded lately allowing four earned runs or more in five consecutive starts and losing all five in a row.
