Greg Schiano and Tom Coughlin Fight after Bucs-Giants Game

It was billed as the Game of the Week and it certainly lived up to it’s expectations. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came into MetLife Stadium and sucker punched the New York Giants straight out of the gate, nearly hanging on to beat the Super Bowl champs in a 41-34 shootout. But the intensity of the game spilled over into the postgame handshake almost exactly a year after Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz brawled after the Niners-Lions game.

The reason for the verbal throw down involved the final play of the game. The Buccaneers had just thrown an interception which essentially sealed the win for the Giants, but there was no quit in the Bucs.

On Eli Manning’s kneel down play, the Bucs swarmed the offensive line, knocking Manning down and nearly forcing a fumble. Needless to say, Tom Coughlin was not a big fan of this move and let first year head coach Greg Schiano that’s not we do it in the NFL. Schiano told Coughlin he could care less how things are done in the NFL, you play to win the game and you do so until there is no time left on the clock.

Coughlin, as you can clearly see in the GIF, told Schiano what he thought of that explanation.

Frankly, this brings in to debate the whole necessity of the postgame handshake. Was Schiano in the wrong, absolutely not. The NFL has been revolutionized by people doing things you’re not supposed to do and forcing a fumble on a kneel down is something that never happens. It’s not like the game was a blowout, the Bucs needed just a touchdown to tie the game, so Schiano had every right to call the play he did.

The Giants, however, weren’t afraid to be cry-babies about it, calling it a “cheap shot” and a play that “won’t be forgotten”. Nevertheless the Giants won adn we have a free segue from highlights to promos for tonight’s Lions-49ers matchup.
