Matthew Stafford Reggie Bush and other Fantasy Football injuries from week 3

Week 3 in the NFL was a costly one for many fantasy owners. Across the league fantasy relevant stars seemed to be dropping in every game. If you are a fantasy owner who doesn’t have injury concerns, you’re in the minority as you can see from this list of injured players who went down yesterday around the NFL. Here’s the latest on the fantasy starters who dealt with injury issues and their current outlook for the upcoming weeks:
Matthew Stafford-Detroit Lions-QB: Stafford had shed his “if he can stay healthy” tag after a fully healthy last season but he was forced to leave the game with a leg injury to his hamstring/glute. It reportedly has been an issue in practice this week and he’s scheduled for an MRI today to see exactly the extent of the injury and if he needs to miss time. Shaun King is the Lions backup and showed in yesterday’s comeback that he can throw the ball around the yard if the Lions call on him.
C.J. Spiller-Buffalo Bills-RB: Spiller was drilled by Usama Young and left with what looked to be a long-term injury. However, the Bills came out later in the day and said it could just be “a week or two” before C.J. returns. Spiller will definitely miss at least a week and if Fred Jackson isn’t able to return Tashard Choice should be in for a few weeks of fantasy relevancy.

Reggie Bush-Miami Dolphins-RB: In a non-sensical move, the Dolphins ran Bush while trying to wind out the first half. Bush limped off the field on his own power and his ankle injury “doesn’t look bad” according to a Profootballtalk.com report. Bush owners may have dodged a bullet here, but see what Monday’s MRI shows before making plans for next week.
Julio Jones-Atlanta Falcons-WR: Jones left with a hand injury but returned and looked fine.
Willis McGahee-Denver Broncos-RB: McGahee left with a rib injury and didn’t get back into the game. The Broncos had left Knowshon Moreno as a healthy inactive so Ronnie Hillman and Lance Ball were left to carry the load and did so fairly ineffectively. If McGahee misses time, it’s not clear who would get the carries. Check on his status through the week.
Miles Austin-Dallas Cowboys-WR: Austin left with an apparent rib injury but was able to return after X-rays were negative and should be goot to go for next week.
Kenny Britt-Tennessee Titans-WR: Britt rolled his ankle at the end of the Titans big win over Detroit, but he showed good quickness and burst and doesn’t think the ankle is a big deal. His knees have been the problem in the past, so be cautious if you hear about knee issues.
Jared Cook-Tennessee Titans-TE: Cook left with a shoulder injury and has an MRI today to see how much, if any, time will be missed.
Julian Edelman-New England Patriots-WR: Edelman was targeted early in the Pats game in Baltimore but left with a hand injury and didn’t re-enter the game even after catching some passes on the sidelines. The severity of his injury is unknown so check back later this week to see if it’s broken in which case he’ll miss some time.
Beanie Wells-Arizona Cardinals-RB: Wells left with a toe injury and could have turf toe which is a nagging, recurring, and extremely frustrating injury for players and fantasy owners. Wells was already in a time share and should be firmly ensconced on your bench until further notice.
Jacob Tamme-Denver Broncos-TE: Tamme left with a groin injury late in the Denver-Houston game and his status moving forward is unknown at this point.

Darrius Heyward-Bey-Oakland Raiders-WR: DHB took a vicious and un-called helmet-to-helmet hit and was unconscious on the field. He spent the night in the hospital and will most likely miss some significant time. Denarius Moore and Rod Streater should get more looks while he’s out.
Austin Collie-Indianapolis Colts-WR: Collie had his season-debut cut short as he returned from multiple concussions only to leave with what looked to be a serious knee injury.
Leonard Hankerson-Washington Redskins-WR: Hankerson was starting for the injured Pierre Garcon and was taken for X-rays to his neck and back after the game. His status going forward is up in the air at this point.
Peyton Hillis-Kansas City Chiefs-RB: Hillis left the game with an ankle injury the same day Jamaal Charles blew up against the Saints. Hillis will most likely have a reduced role until he recovers or Charles struggles.
Laurent Robinson-Jacksonville Jaguars-WR: Robinson took a “blow to the head” and will try to get cleared in tim for next week’s game. If you need Robinson, check back throughout the week.
Stephen Hill-New York Jets-WR: Hill left with a hamstring injury and was unable to post a catch for the second week in a row after his opening-week explosion. Hill now has calf, ankle, and hammy issues and can be dropped in most formats.
Dexter McCluster-Kansas City Chiefs-WR/RB: McCluster hyperextended his elbow in a grisly injury that cost him the rest of yesterday’s game and probably will cost him a few weeks of playing time. There are better options on the waiver wire, so drop Dexter if you’ve had him on your bench.
