With the NFL coaching carousel starting to settle down, a favorite has emerged in the Arizona Cardinals head coaching search. Only two job openings remain, but rumors are swirling that Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is beginning to set himself apart from the rest of the candidates and Arizona and has the “inside track” at the head coaching gig.

Per Pro Football Talk:

"The only potential glitch in the hiring of Arians could be the ongoing presence of defensive coordinator Ray Horton.  If the Cardinals insist on keeping him and Arians doesn’t want to do that, Arians could pass on the job.If he does, the position could go to Horton, or to Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden."

If the Cardinals are set on making Arians their head coach, they will have to give him full control over the staff. No coaching candidate is going to agree to come in and work with another regimes leftovers, especially one who has a cozy job in Indianapolis and no real need to leave. The opportunities will be there for Arians moving forward.

It is understandable that the Cardinals would like to keep Horton and potentially even promote him to head coach, but it’s time for them to come to the realization that they need an offensive coach.

Bringing in Arians would revive the Cardinals offense, especially once he gets to handpick a signal-caller to come in and run his offense.

The Arizona Cardinals are one of the last remaining job openings, so we will keep our eyes open and pass along the latest news and rumors. Who do you think the Cardinals should target for their head coaching vacancy?
