Tiger Woods Firms Up Schedule For Upcoming Events

Tiger Woods hasn’t played since his victory at the Farmers Insurance Open last month, but announced via his personal website on Tuesday that after playing at the Accenture Match Play next week, he will add two additional tournaments to his spring schedule. He will be playing the Honda Classic for the second time the following week, and The WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. The Accenture is played at Dove Mountain in Arizona, The Honda, close to his new home in Palm Beach Gardens, and The Cadillac is always played at Doral’s Blue Monster which is in Miami.

Tiger finished tied for 17th place last year at Dove Mountain, and won the event three times in 2003, 2004, and 2008. Hunter Mahan won last year. The Accenture Match Play Championship will feature most of the world’s top golfers, and give Woods a chance to test his new swing, and game against the best. Rory McIlroy will play, and it will be the pair’s first meeting since both missed the cut at their first 2013 meeting in Abu Dhabi. Luke Donald is playing at The Northern Trust Open this weekend at Riveria, and will be in Arizona next week.

Rory McIlroy won at The Honda Classic in 2012, but Tiger finished in second place, two shot down but put on a furious charge on Sunday and just came up short. This will be a home event for Woods since he has relocated his residence from the Orlando area to Jupiter. Jupiter, Florida is just up the road from Palm Beach Gardens.

The WGC-Cadillac Championship is played on the Blue Monster at Doral. Tiger has won this event six times, but as you might remember, withdrew with leg problems in the final round. He was experiencing problems with his Achilles tendon, and left the course after hitting his tee shot on the 12th hole. He won here in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He won the Ford Championship at Doral in 2005 and 2006.

For golf fans, this is going to be a stretch of “must watch golf“. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are back on top of their games, and will get a chance to test them against the best players in the world. We can only hope McIlroy has put in some work with his new equipment, and will show up ready to play.

With the announcement that Brandt Snedeker will miss the Match Play Championship next week with a rib injury that he picked up at the Humana a couple of weeks ago, we can only hope he is healed up, and ready to go when the tour goes to Florida. This promises to be a great run of golf that will get everyone tuned up and ready when the Masters tees off in April. Stay tuned, this is going to be good.
