Lee Westwood Goes All In For A Major Championship

Is Lee Westwood having a mid-life crisis, or is he really on a mission to win that first major championship? Let’s see: he turns 40 years old in April, and has been on the professional golf circuit for almost 20 years. He is arguably the best golfer on the planet that has not yet won a Green Jacket, or a Harley J Earle Trophy. Oops…he doesn’t drive for Hendricks Motorsports, Wanamaker Trophy. Well you get the idea.

Lee has been to the alter many times in the majors,  but always seems to miss that one putt, or hits that one errant tee shot that has him leaving with the bouquet, and not the ring. To correct this situation, he has moved himself, and his family to the posh South Florida area where he can practice year round, and play practice rounds with his neighbors. Something he couldn’t do in his Worksop, England home, especially during the winter months.

With the likes of Louis Oosthuizen, and Charl Schwartzel, in his neighborhood, and Tiger Woods just up the road, Westwood should be able to get his golf game on track. The Florida Swing, which begins Thursday morning at The Honda Classic is really the kick-off event for the road to the Masters, and will provide an opportunity for him to set his sites on a Green Jacket. His last chance before he turns forty.

With 22 wins on the European Tour, and two on the PGA Tour, Westwood is currently ranked 9th in the world. He put his toe in to test his game at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic where he picked up a tie for fifth place, before making the trip back home(his new home). He played with his dad at the ATT Pebble Beach Pro Am where he picked up a T44, and went solo at The Northern Trust Open for a T 21 in Los Angles. He tapped out early at Dove Mountain.

As Lee Westwood tees it up at Palm Beach Gardens on Thursday morning, and hit’s the road on the Florida swing, he has taken care of his residence, and  family, all he has to worry about now is the Bear Trap, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Phil Mickelson. Maybe 2013 is the year he will finally get the monkey and critics off his back, and win that Claret Jug….or whatever.
