NFL Draft 2013: Akeem Shavers Impresses at Purdue Pro Day
By Josh Sanchez
Purdue Boilermakers running back was not receiving much attention early in the draft process, but after his standout numbers at the team’s Pro Day he is beginning to generate some buzz. Just how impressive was Shavers’ Pro Day performance? Take a look at the numbers.
- 40-yard dash: 4.35 seconds
- Bench press:19 reps
- Vertical jump: 39.5-inches
- Broad jump: 10-foot-10
If the 5-foot-10, 199-pound Shavers would have been able to perform at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine, his numbers would have been among the top at his position. The performance at Purdue’s Pro Day will now cause NFL scouts to go back to the film and see what they may have missed with the running back.
There were 18 NFL teams present at the Purdue Pro Day.
Last season at Purdue, Shavers was the team’s leading rusher with 871 yards and six touchdowns. He added 370 yards receiving and an additional three touchdowns.
Shavers is still likely to go undrafted, but with his Pro Day numbers he should receive a chance in the NFL as an undrafted free agent.
