Phil Mickelson Back In Action At The WGC-Cadillac Championship
By Les Bailey
The WGC-Cadillac Championship will see the return of Phil Mickelson to action when they tee off on Thursday morning at The Doral Blue Monster. Lefty will be coming off a three week vacation where spent some much needed time with his family during spring break. Phil typically plays the West Coast Swing every year, and by the time the Masters is over, has worn himself into exhaustion. This year, he decided to take some time, and rest.
Although Phil won the Phoenix Open in decisive form, he hasn’t had a really great spring this year. He looked great in Scottsdale, but struggled in the remainder of the four tournaments where he competed. Tournaments like the ATT Pebble Beach Pro Am, and the Northern Trust Open where he won last year, and lost in a playoff to Bill Haas at Pacific Palisades. In 2013, he finished in a T 60 at Pebble Beach, and in his last appearance, a T 21 at Riveria.
In the other two tournaments, Mickelson was T 51 at the Farmers Insurance Open, and a T 37 at The Humana Challenge. Phil looks to be a golfer that is trying to find his game. He continues to be erratic off the tee, and struggles at time on the greens. His only bright spot this spring, was a total dominance at his home course in Scottsdale where he found that old magic for one week.
I’m looking forward to watching Phil this weekend at Doral. He tees off at 12:48 on Thursday, and will play in a group with Golf Boys 2 star, and 2012 Masters Champ, Bubba Watson, and Steve Stricker. His group will start on the front nine Thursday, and go off at number 10 Friday morning.
I like watching this guy play, and always look forward to seeing his imagination around the greens. He doesn’t play quite as reckless as he did when he was youger, but is still a must watch if you are a golf fans that likes to see great shots. He can make an impossible shot look easy at time, leaving you to wonder, how did he do that?
I love this guy’s smile, and attitude. He is a true ambassador and gentleman to this wonderful sport, and to sports fans everywhere.
