Rashard Mendenhall Receiving Interest From Denver Broncos
By Josh Sanchez
The market for Pittsburgh Steelers free agent running back Rashard Mendenhall has been much greater than expected with the official start of free agency just around the corner. The latest team to throw their hat in the mix for Mendenhall is the Denver Broncos. According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos are considering a play for the former first-round pick.
"The level of the Broncos’ interest in Mendenhall is difficult to gauge. They have a menu of 12 to 15 free agent players who they believe could fit their roster under the right circumstances and for the right price. While contacting agents of these free-agent players, the Broncos to date have said little more than they have some interest and they’ll back to them later."
If Mendenhall were to sign with the Broncos, it would mean the likely release of veteran rusher Willis McGahee.
Mendenhall had over 1,000 yards in each season from 2009 to 2011, but was slowed down last season after lingering issues from the torn ACL that ended his 2011 campaign. If Mendenhall is finally healthy, he is a capable every down back that the Broncos could benefit from adding.
