Ed Reed beat the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XLVII but it now appears as though he’ll be joining them in 2013. The Niners are expected to lose Dashon Goldson in free agency which means they’ll be looking to add a new safety and that safety is looking like it will be Ed Reed. While man initially thought Reed would head to Indianapolis to rejoin head coach Chuck Pagano, all signs are beginning to point even further west to San Francisco.

For starters, Reed is represented by agent David Dunn, who happens to represent both San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Jim Harbaugh. Reed played under John Harbaugh and is familiar with the way the brothers coach and he fits their style in every single way imaginable. Then there’s the matter of need as the 49ers need a safety and Reed needs a new home and both have the common goal of making it back to the Super Bowl next season.

To further matters along, ProFootballTalk.com reports that a connected league source predicts that Reed is going to end up in San Francisco.

"A league source with extensive knowledge of the current safety market believes that the 49ers could land Ravens safety Ed Reed."

Free agency doesn’t officially open until 4pm ET on Tuesday, so we won’t know until then what will happen. But all signs are pointing to Reed ending up in San Francisco, which means the NFC West continues to pile up on tried and true talent and is looking more and more like the most solid division in the entire NFL.
