Brandt Snedeker was elected the PGA  2013 Avis Player of the Month for February on Wednesday, after capturing over 45% of the vote on PGATour.com. The 32 year old FedEx Cup points leader played through a rib injury sustained at The Humana Challenge to finish in second place at The Waste Management Phoenix Open, only to follow that with a victory in The ATT National ProAm at Pebble Beach.

Snedeker beat out Phoenix Open winner, Phil Mickelson, WGC-Accenture Match Play Champion, Matt Kuchar, and Northern Trust Open winner, John Merrick in fan voting for the award. Momentum that started during the 2012 FedEx Cup playoff, continued for Brandt through the spring, and the West Coast Swing. He bowed out after his victory in Monterey to let his ribs heal prior to The Masters.

During his run, that included two tournaments in February, Snedeker has finished in the top five in four of the five events he played during the start of the season. His only bad finish was at The Humana Challenge where he said he injured his ribs. His only rounds of golf out of the 60’s all year, were 70’s for the first two rounds at Maui during the wind storms. He finished in sole possession of third place.

Even though Phil Mickelson had a pretty good February, I felt the fans got it right when they elected Brandt Snedeker for this award. He has been the best golfer on the planet since the end of the 2012 season. I know, I am excited to see him return to action next week at The Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando. It will undoubtedly take him a couple of tournaments to get rid of the rust, and back into form. Even though this is shaping up to be the year for Tiger Woods, I feel like Brandt Snedeker will get his share, and more than likely be very competitive by the time we roll into June, and the US Open.
