The belief heading in to Friday was that the Houston Texans would be able to sign Baltimore Ravens free agent safety Ed Reed after meeting with the potential Hall of Famer on Thursday and entering serious contract negotiations. On Friday morning, the opinion that Reed has moved on from Baltimore and was ready for a new start began to spread at a feverish pace once the Texans passed along the news that Reed was still in town visiting with the team.

After losing Glover Quin on the market, there is little doubt that the Texans need to add a safety in the offseason and there is no player available that brings the skill level and leadership of Reed. It’s a perfect match.

The two sides are reportedly close to a deal, but as last offseason showed us with a longtime Ravens veteran, you can never rule out a return to Baltimore.
