The San Diego Chargers have been quietly putting together one of the better free agent classes since the new league year began at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday and they have continued to add to their roster. The most recent acquisition is a versatile threat from an old AFC rival.

Per Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston:

Woodhead is a shifty, versatile running back who can help the Chargers offense in a number of ways. If the team is looking for a player that can pick up some of the slack that was created by the departure of Darren Sproles in 2011, Woodhead could be the running back threat they are lacking.
