Golf: Spring means only One Thing…The Start of Majors Season !!
By Les Bailey
Now that we are nearing the end of March, and the little rodent up in Pennsylvania has lied to all of us about the arrival of spring, it’s time to get ready for Major Championships in golf. As I look out my window in Virginia this morning, it doesn’t look like spring yet, it has been snowing since Monday morning, and the wretched stuff keeps falling. I Know spring is close because none of it is sticking to the roads, but never the less, it continues to come down.
With a little luck, by the time Masters Week gets here in two weeks, the South will have hopefully experienced Dogwood Winter, and there will be an opening for the Azaleas to bloom. The lush fairways at Augusta National will have time to turn green, and the treacherous putting surfaces will have time to firm to their normal 13 on the Stimpmeter speed.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves!..Before Arnie, Jack, and Gary tee it up in the fog for the customary drives up the first fairway to signal the start of the Masters, the Ladies first major of the 2013 season is on tap. The Kraft Nabisco Championship gets underway on April 4th at Rancho Mirage, California. This is the LPGA’s first major of the 2013 season.
Action will get underway on April 4th at the Mission Hills Country Club, the site of the old Dinah Shore . The Kraft Nabisco Championship began in 1972, and became an LPGA Major eleven years later, in 1983. Pro golf Now will provide you with a preview for this event next week, complete with course info, and past champion information.
The Masters begins the following week at the infamous
Augusta National
golf course in Augusta, Georgia. Pro Golf Now will be doing a preview for this tournament to get you ready for all of the action. We will be doing a
Live Blog
for the Sunday finals, complete with top ten scoring. If you have an iPhone, with the new
FanSided App
, you will be able to catch the live blog where we will be updating what is happening on the golf course, as well as the top ten on the leaderboard.
If you don’t have the App, it is available at the FanSided website, or your iTunes Store, and is free. In fact…you can set it up to catch all of your favorite FanSided blogs while you are on the go. It comes with easy to read text, and push notifications.
