San Diego Chargers Release Jared Gaither
By Josh Sanchez
While the San Diego Chargers are preparing to revamp their offensive line, they have decided to part ways with veteran left tackle Jared Gaither. The team was debating what to do with Gaither and his $6.5 million cap number in 2013. The Chargers took a risk on Gaither last year in free agency and handed him a four-year, $24.6 million contract.
Unfortunately for the Chargers, they did not get a good return on their investment with Gaither playing just four games last season.
Per Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego:
San Diego will now look to find the franchise left tackle that they were hoping Gaither would be when they signed him a year ago. The leading candidate to fill that void is Oklahoma Sooners tackle Lane Johnson who should be ripe for the picking with the team’s 11th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Hopefully the Chargers are able to find someone that can actually do the job and keep Philip Rivers standing upright moving forward.
