The Boston Red Sox planned to have an open house on Wednesday where fans could tour the stadium, dugouts, and clubhouse and even meet former players. This, of course, has been postponed to a later date in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing. The Red Sox open a three-game series against the Indians in Cleveland on Tuesday, so no games have been postponed as of now.

Red Sox President Larry Lucchino released a statement on Tuesday:

“We all personally feel the grief of the horrifying tragedy that struck our community on Patriots’ Day. Our hearts are with our fellow Bostonians and visitors from around the world who were here for one of Boston’s most spectacular and time-honored events. In the coming days, we will join with others to find ways to show the victims of this heartless, cowardly act our sincere support, and to demonstrate to all, our community’s unity, strength and resilience.”

It’s unfortunate for the Red Sox fans, but it is a move that had to be done. It would be good for the people of Boston to have an event like the planned open house at Fenway to get their minds of the tragic bombings that took place on Monday, but the city cannot handle a rush of fans during this chaos. Postponing the open house was the only respectable decision.

The Red Sox play the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park on Friday.
